Tommy Craig spoke to the official site and said:
"To score five goals is delightful, the boys worked really hard for those goals.
"The conditions were tough. It stayed one-nil for a long time and they had chances so it wasn't all one-sided, but once we scored the second after the break it gave us the
kick start we needed and after that we were comfortable winners.
"It's a difficult pitch at Bedlington. It's a big pitch and a heavy pitch. They always give us a hard game and a lot of hard work went into this win."
"It is good to see Carl scoring. He's scored some and missed a few this season, but just recently he's been finding the mark.
"The Northumberland Senior Cup is a competition there to be won and I'm never happy when we don't reach the final and win
the cup.
"This is Newcastle United's Reserve team and I know Newcastle supporters will be looking out for the result."
Having been knocked out of the Senior Cup in
each of the last two seasons by them, Newcastle made no mistake on Wednesday
night against Bedlington Terriers.
The Northern League side fashioned the first chance of the tie, United keeper
Fraser Forster blocking Tony Shandran's effort after three minutes.
But by the time Forster was called into action again, his side were a goal to
the good, thanks to David Edgar's volleyed conversion of a Martin Brittain
corner on 6 minutes - our first real attack.
With the visitors opting for a 3-5-2 formation, flying winger Alan O'Brien
tormented the Terriers all evening, seeing one good chance saved by home 'keeper
Marc Riches before striking the post from close range on 38 minutes.
The home side had threatened on a number of occasions, with Steve Preen forcing
Forster into pushing the ball on to his crossbar on 20 minutes, Terriers unable
to convince the referee that the ball had bounced down over the goal line.
Both Preen and former Magpie reserve Gareth McAlindon got past our defence but
were unable to beat Forster, as Bedlington retained an interest in the tie at
the interval as they trailed by just the one goal.
Within six minutes of the restart though, Newcastle were forced into a change
when Forster limped off with a shin problem, being replaced by sub 'keeper Mark
Cook - making his reserve team debut.
United pressure saw the lively O'Brien shoot on the unguarded Terriers goal
after 57 minutes only for Gary Pearson to hack the ball away in the six yard
box.
A second goal wasn't long in arriving though, as Matty Pattison burst into the
box to be hauled over by Mark Atkinson, Martin Brittain netting the resultant
penalty just after the hour.
What was an increasingly one-sided affair then saw striker Carl Finnigan
maintain his record of scoring in each round of the competition, as he converted
O'Brien's pullback from the right side of the box.
The same player then seized on a poor backpass by Justin Keegan to stride
forward and notch his second and our fourth with ten minutes remaining.
And having grabbed a hat trick in the previous round against Ashington, Finnigan
repeated the feat on 88 minutes - O'Brien once again the provider.
A professional performance from United then, and one which drew praise from
coach Tommy Craig - whose side has endured a few uncomfortable nights at the
Welfare Ground in recent seasons.
We now meet Blyth Spartans in the final (on a date and location tbc) after the
Unibond side beat West Allotment Celtic 5-0 at Croft Park.
