Our hopes of lifting a first reserve league title since 1948 ended at a
chilly Elland Road, Leeds on Monday.
A 1-0 victory for the whites confirmed Manchester United as champions, leaving the disappointed Magpies as runners up.
For a number of our players, this game marked the end of their Newcastle
careers: the likes of McGuffie and Cowan now free agents, while
others such as McMenamin, Dimas and Boyd have already left the club.
However, while the reserves were pipped at the post our U17 lads have qualified for the National Playoff finals.
A brace from promising defender Steven Taylor and a winner from Congo-born Calvin Zola-Makongo overcame our semi final opponents Sheffield United 3-2.
The lads now hope to go one better than their predecessors, who went down 5-2 on aggregrate to Ipswich in last season's final. Their oppponents this time? Manchester United.
