Later that season it looked as if Nicos was on his way out the toon, but with a £1m bid from Leicester accepted, the player himself opted to stay at United.
Things then improved for the lad and by the end of the season a string of good displays and 6 goals saw him a regular.
However, only two games into last season came a knee injury, which looked like sidelining him until the summer. In the event he was back by April and straight back into the thick of things.
Sunday's winner against the mackems even topped his goals against Man U
and Boro this season, and completed the transition from crowd villain to hero.
