Many theories have been advanced to explain the poor form of Newcastle
since the turn of the year, including the age-old moan that we have too many heartless foreigners wearing the shirt.

While some Basque-type fundamentalists still cling to the John Hall Utopia of an all-geordie XI, for most of us the definition of a foreigner is a player
not originating from the home nations.

So do the facts bear out the idea that Johnny Foreigner is the cause?

Taking the example of our last two defeats, Charlton and Manchester City
both named nine British players, of which seven were English.

By contrast, our own alleged League of Nations featured no less than eleven brits in the surrender to Man City. The sad fact is that in recent weeks, a motley collection of players from all over the globe have have out-fought and out-thought our lads. A worrying trend in any language.
