appeal for support:
New beginning for Blyth
Following a
traumatic few months and a welcome change of ownership, Blyth
Spartans play their first home game as a community-owned
football club this Saturday.
Currently bottom of the Northern Premier League Premier Division,
the green and whites face fellow strugglers Matlock Town in a 3pm
kick-off at Croft Park.
Coinciding with the international break, a crowd of over 1,000 is
anticipated and advance tickets are available online here
as well at the turnstiles on Saturday.
Standing and
seated season tickets covering the Matlock game and the remaining
home fixtures are on sale now - find details of those online here
If you're not up to date with the Spartans saga, articles by
local journalist Mark Carruthers here
will give some insight, in particular the takeover coverage here

RGR
updates
We've reported on the continuing adventures of Mark Allison aka Run Geordie Run
since 2007 - and he's at it again, raising more money for
St.Benedict's Hospice.
That next endeavour will see him run across the USA between May and August
2025 and as preparations for that mammoth 3,200 mile trek continue, two new
fundraisers are currently in progress.
The official 2025 run T-shirt is now on
sale for £30. To purchase, click
here and fill in the order form before paying via justgiving.
Also running now is a raffle to win this
sought-after A3 sized Eddie Howe game card, signed by the Magpies
boss. Entries cost £5 each here
and the prize draw will take place on Friday November 29th.
Internationals:
Tino steps up
Update: Tuesday brought further squad
changes for England, with United's Lewis Miley promoted from the U20s
to the U21s for the first time.
The FA confirmed on Monday that eight of the senior squad
selected for international duty had pulled out - although Newcastle's
Anthony Gordon isn't one of the withdrawals, despite concerns over a hip
problem after Sunday's game.
Among the replacements called up by England is United's Tino Livramento, who
was originally named in the U21s.
Livramento and Gordon join fellow Magpie Lewis Hall in Lee Carsley's 23 man
selection for fixtures against Greece in Athens and Ireland at Wembley.
PS: Newcastle's Emil Krafth has withdrawn
from the Sweden squad for this week's internationals due to injury. The
defender wasn't involved in Sunday's 3-1 Premier League success at
Nottingham Forest amid claims of a suspected broken collarbone.

Ex-Magpies:
Old boys sign up
Former Newcastle full back Patrick van Aanholt has found
himself a new club, some six months after his contract with Turks
Galatasaray expired.
The 34 year-old spent last season on loan at PSV Eindhoven and has
joined fellow Eredivisie side Sparta Rotterdam for the remainder of
the current campaign.
Meanwhile, fellow SJP old boy Paul Dummett debuted for Wigan
Athletic on Saturday after agreeing a short-term contract at the
League One side.
The 33 year-old was on the bench for Saturday's home game against
Wycombe Wanderers, making his entrance in the 83rd minute of a 0-1 defeat.
Dummy's first start for the Latics then came in an EFL Trophy tie against
Nottingham Forest U21s on Tuesday night, completing 58 minutes of a 0-0
draw. His new side then won the penalty shootout that followed 3-0.
U18s:
Derby day draw
Newcastle U18s 3 mackems U18s 3
Saturday saw the first Tyne-wear U18 derby
this season; the mackems wiping out a two goal interval deficit and
coming close to leaving Little Benton with three points.
Seeking their first home league win of the season, the Magpies took the lead after 12 minutes when Michael Mills
robbed an opponent on halfway, advanced and swapped passes with
Sean Neave before converting a low shot across the 'keeper for a
first goal at this level.
The visitors equalised just two minutes later after Fin Geragusian's
cross from the left side of the area was converted by Jaydon Jones from close range.
Mills then grabbed his second to restore his side's lead in the
20th minute, Joe Brayson unselfishly squaring the ball in the box for
the 15 year-old to
tuck away.
The home side's lead was extended just before half-time when Brayson was
set away by Neave and confidently fired home - having sent an easier
chance over the bar earlier in the half.
Twelve minutes after the interval it was 3-2 after Geragusin's fine
finish from the edge of the box that eluded Will Anderson and went in off the far post.
And the scores were level in the 65th minute when Joe Neild's right
wing corner was met by Liam Hunt at the near post - the visitors at
that point looking set to go on and win their first derby in three
attempts.
By then Mills had gone off with a knock and after a decent first
half down the right, Trevan Sanusi was rather less impressive when
deployed on the left.
The young Magpies did exert some late pressure after the tiring
Sanusi gave way to Matheos Ferreira, who sent over a couple of
tempting crosses that nobody in black and white could make
sufficient contact with.
Newcastle gave a debut to Fraser Harper from the bench following
his release by Wolves. The 18 year-old attacker has appeared for Crystal Palace and Arsenal in recent
weeks, having netted for Wolves U18s against United at Little Benton
in January 2024.
Team: Anderson (Ad.Harrison 86), Johnson, Morgan (Cogdon 86),
Watts, Craggs, Finnernan, Sanusi (Ferreira 72), Alabi (O'Donovan
86), Brayson, Neave, Mills (Harper 62). Subs n/u: none.
Booked: Mills.
PS: There's another derby later this month in the U17 Premier
League Cup. That is scheduled for Whitley Park on Tuesday November 26th
(7pm).

minutes when the score was 1-1.
Harrison Ashby

The
tie comes between Saturday PL games against Leicester City
at home and Ipswich Town away.
As was the case against AFC Wimbledon and Chelsea earlier this season, the
tie wasn't chosen for live TV transmission, meaning that it will be on Sky
Sports+.

The winners of that tie

The Magpies will be without Sean Longstaff against the Bees; the midfielder

earlier in the competition.

Mystery Man
a Mag at last!
28 years since his one-off outing in a
Newcastle shirt, former Nottingham Forest player Steve Guinan has
linked up with the club again; albeit only briefly.
Then 20, the striker unexpectedly came up against Forest when the Magpies
provided the opposition for Stuart Pearce's testimonial match at the City
Ground.
Initially named in the home squad, Guinan swapped dressing rooms when a
visiting player pulled up in the warm-up and after coming on in the second
half, netted for Newcastle in a 5-6 defeat.
In pre-internet days and with no PA announcement as to his identity, those
Toon supporters present resorted to serenading him with chants of
"mystery man."
These days Guinan works as an FA coach and was on Tyneside recently,
visiting Newcastle's Academy while studying for his UEFA Pro Licence
qualification.
Taking to social media afterwards to praise the club's Little Benton set-up,
he thanked U16 Lead Coach Jack Brazil in particular. Brazil's dad Gary is
the former Magpie forward - now a colleague of Guinan at the FA.

On This Day in History |
13th November |
Born Or Died:
1993 Ben Sayer born, Newcastle.
(2010-12)
Central midfielder who first appeared for the Magpies as an eight year old,
also featuring for Grainger Park Boys Club.
Along with fellow junior Dennis Knight, Ben represented both
Newcastle City boys and Walbottle Campus - captaining the latter to success in
the 2007 national Schools Cup final at Coventry City's
Ricoh Arena.
Debuting for United's U18s as a substitute in a 2-1 away victory at Bristol
City in August 2010, his first goal at that level came in a win at Barnsley
three months later - an excellent 25-yarder on his 17th birthday.
Scoring the winner in the FA Youth Cup Fourth Round against Grimsby Town at
SJP in January 2011, Ben was named on the bench for the reserves without featuring.
His second string bow came in a 2-1 friendly win at Berwick Rangers
in July 2011, ahead of a handful of competitive
reserve games.
Joining Ashington on trial following his release by
United in 2012, Sayer signed for Team Northumbria and
later appeared for Blyth Spartans and Spennymoor Town.
Moving
to Morpeth Town in 2014, he played a big part in the Highwaymen's 2016 FA Vase triumph over Hereford at
Wembley and 2018 promotion to the Northern Premier League.
October 2023 then found him agreeing a loan move
to North Shields before joining Whickham FC in January 2024 and then AFC
Blyth six months later.

Newcastle completed a win double over The Heathens,
winning at
Bank Street for the first time in what would be the
sixth and final meeting of the two clubs.
Magpies debutant Jock Peddie later played for Newton
Heath, in their subsequent guise of Manchester United.
The Newcastle Daily Chronicle reported a brief
break in play during the first half, when
"a hole was discovered in the middle of the field, quite
a foot deep and some amusement was created by the
appearance of the groundsman, with a wheelbarrow and a
bucket full of soil wherewithall to fill the void."

Turnstile queues started forming at 4am for this
eagerly anticipated encounter.
The Rams defence held strong in the first half, only for George Hair
to sneak through and fire home the opener. George Stobbart and
Jackie Milburn then beat visiting custodian Bill Townsend.
"Tyneside is the most football-crazed place on earth and a more
partisan crowd than the 64,061 fanatics who choked the St. James'

Derby Daily Telegraph correspondent.

No matter what Newcastle managed in Rotterdam, there was surely no way an under-strength Juventus would get the result in Kiev that Sir Bobby
Robson's side needed in order to complete a remarkable
comeback to qualify. But when Craig
Bellamy returned from a three game ban to score on the stroke of half-time and
the Italians were
holding Dynamo, the impossible dream was suddenly on.
Hugo Viana made it 2-0 but Kiev then netted through
Shatskikh - a goal that seemed to dash United's hopes of qualification. Juventus then dramatically
equalised just three minutes later - through Salas - as Feyenoord got one back
thanks to substitute
Mariano Bombarda.
And then Juve scored again, Zalayeta putting the Serie A
side ahead on 61 minutes. We needed to hang onto to our
lead but Anthony Lurling promptly levelled for Feyenoord as
United threatened to capitulate. With
Juventus hanging on for their first away success in
this competition in 18 attempts (since winning in Kiev
four years earlier), Newcastle needed inspiration - and it came indirectly through Kieron
Dyer.
He broke upfield and
seemed a certain scorer, only to shoot weakly at Patrick
Lodewijks. The rebound went no further than
Craig Bellamy though, who squeezed the ball
between keeper and post for an incredible finish in the
first minute of added time.
German referee Franz Xaver-Wack then kept the travelling
Magpies in agonies for two more minutes before blowing his
whistle - the party truly getting underway when
confirmation of Juve's Ukrainian success came.
