Thanks to Rachel Morris, a friend of NUFC.com
based out in New South Wales, we're able to bring you a flavour of football
Down Under, more specifically our namesakes Newcastle United.
Formerly the Newcastle Breakers (whose hard-core fans were nicknamed the
Rowdies), the side was re-christened Lloyd Scott Newcastle United
at the beginning of this season, when new owner Con Constantine brought in
the local design and printing company as sponsors. |
The Breakers had enjoyed reasonable seasons in in 1998/99 and 1999/2000 -
8th and then 7th, but were refused entry to this season's competition as
doubts surfaced over their financial viability.
However, their debut season as Newcastle United hasn't been a memorable one,
as they've struggled to score goals with any frequency and consequently
results have suffered. Although they're currently second bottom of the
league, they have recently been boosted by confirmation that they will be
part of next season's reduced entry NSL competition.
