Newcastle's
Northumberland Senior Cup quarter-final was finally staged on Tuesday at
Whitley Park after two previous attempts there failed due to a
waterlogged pitch and then a local power cut.
The Northern League visitors went ahead on 25 minutes when a right wing
corner from Owen Imeson wasn't dealt with and a shot by Joe Ames found
the top left hand corner of the net.
United equalised four minutes later when Amadou Diallo's run into the
box was was halted illegally by Josh Morton and Diallo got up to
fire the spot-kick powerfully home.
Nine minutes before the break the Magpies went ahead when a towering
header from Ellis Stanton following a measured right wing cross by Leo
Shahar gave the 'keeper
no chance.
Into the second half and the home side went further ahead in the 70th
minute when Morton gave away his second spot kick of the game. Trevan
Sanusi was fouled this time on the byline and James Huntley confidently
slotted home from the spot.
The fourth arrived four minutes later when Sanusi gained possession and
played in Kyle Crossley for a routine finish via the far post.
A trip to Ashington now awaits United, with the other semi-final between
Blyth Town and Newcastle Benfield. Dates for both ties are yet to be
announced.
