Newcastle's U21 side
suffered another setback on Sunday, beaten by Blackburn Rovers in a PL2 fixture
staged at the Lancashire FA
HQ in Leyland.
A shot from Charlie Weston in the 20th minute of the first half gave
the hosts a deserved one goal advantage at the interval, prompting the Magpies
to make a double substitution.
That brought them more into the game, Rovers custodian Joe Hilton pulling off
noteworthy saves to deny Josh Scott,
Anthony Munda, James Huntley and Ciaran Thompson.
Midfielder Munda - who had played a full game for the U18s just 24 hours before
then set up fellow substitute Scott for a deserved equaliser on 70 minutes.
However United were unable to bring back a point, Rovers substitute Junior Nsangou
heading Zak Gilsenan's corner kick past Reece Byrne in the 86th minute for what
proved to be the winner.
