Newcastle U21s
extended their unbeaten run to seven games in all competitions on
Sunday with only their second PL2 success of the season. A penalty conversion from Amadou Diallo in the second minute of
first half added time ensured that the points remained on Tyneside.
The winger was United's liveliest player of the first half and got
on the end of a threaded pass from Lucas De Bolle to race into the box before
going down under challenge from visiting custodian Fraser Barnsley -
although contact looked minimal.
That was a reward for Newcastle's domination, although the Toffees twice
threatened to pierce the home defence on sporadic counter-attacks; Francis
Okoronkwo's 17th minute shot ending up on the top of the net and Halid
Djankpata unable to pull the trigger when left one on one with Brown late
in the half.
De Bolle came closest to extending United's lead as the rain
continued to fall at Little Benton, poking a 50th minute
effort wide of the goal before trying his luck with a first time
volley midway through the half that Barnsley did well to turn
away.
