Saturday afternoon saw Newcastle U21s
continue their pre-season preparations by hosting Carlisle United at
Gateshead International Stadium.
The Cumbrians went ahead on 19 minutes when a corner kick was blocked
but sent back into the box, where Ryan Edmondson's effort flicked off
Magpie striker Michael Ndiweni and into his own net.
Carlisle's Jordan Gibson then rattled the goal frame with a 29th minute
effort - the same player bringing a save out of Max Thompson shortly
before the interval.
11 minutes after the interval it was the turn of replacement goalkeeper
Will Brown to deny Gibson, before Newcastle's Diallo had sight of goal
at the other end but got too much height in his shot.
What proved to be Newcastle's best chance fell to Huntley just after the
hour, but he could only direct his header at the opposition goalkeeper.
Carlisle then confirmed their success with a second goal in the 89th
minute; Jack Armer's centre from the right flank converted by Edmondson.
