Eddie Howe:
"I'm really pleased with the team today. We were ourselves
and we had chances, we just didn't take them.
"There were a lot of half-chance moments and presentable
opportunities - a lot of moments where we didn't quite get our final
ball right.
"We have high expectations of ourselves. It was two teams
trying to impose themselves and trying to win. We dominated for long
spells, they defended well.
"We did most things right today, I thought we played very well.
We controlled the game, had chances. Maybe not absolutely must-score
moments but a lot of chances that you'd like to think we'd do better
with if we'd have them again. We had a lot of the ball around their box, a lot of good
build-up play. We just couldn't score the goal.
"Whenever you're not scoring, it's a concern. We're not scoring the
numbers that I'd want to. But I don't think there's any concern
about our style of play in terms of how we're approaching the game.
"Teams are giving us a lot of respect, they're putting a lot
of men behind the ball. For an away team coming here, to have the
amount of possession and control that we did is unusual.
"Credit to them with how they defended and it was a tight game, but
teams will do that to us with the more respect we get.
"You always want more options. But I've got no issue with the squad
- strength or size.
"The point I was making yesterday (in his press
conference) was that if we got injuries we would be very, very
light.
"We're keen to do business and bring a player in that can
hopefully help out but there's no guarantee that will happen."
On Pope and his save:
"I've got to say, his levels of performance right through
this season have been of the highest quality.
"Today's save was one of the best I've seen him make. Top, top save.
He had nothing to do apart from that one moment. I that's the sign
of a very good goalkeeper."
Patrick Vieira said:
"You always want more but at the same time you have to
realise the teams we played - Chelsea, United and Newcastle - three
teams are at a different level.
"It was important for us to try to compete as best as you can
against those teams. And we did well against those teams Today
again, it wasn't easy at all. We competed well and we got the point
we deserved.
"The game today showed us the other side of the game is really
important for us. It's not just about playing, having the ball and
nice football. Today it was all about defending well, working well
on the set pieces and the second ball and making it difficult for
them.
"That side of the game we did really well. The other side is when we
did have the ball, we didn't use it well enough cause them problems
or create chances.
"That's why I'm proud of the team. We wanted, of course, to play and
have more possession, but we needed to put our sleeves up and show
the other side of the game. And we did it well."
Eddie Howe's side are now unbeaten in 15 Premier League
outings, an all-time record in the top flight for the
Magpies - exceeding 14 game runs amassed in 1950 and 2011 (both
of which straddled adjacent seasons).
United are now unbeaten in their last seven PL away games,
matching their record for that competition, which was set during the 2003/04
season.
In 20 PL games this season Newcastle have conceded just 11
goals and Nick Pope has kept 12 clean sheets.
It's nine games and 812 minutes since he was last
beaten in all competitions (six games and 542 minutes
in the PL).
Those 12 clean sheets in 20 games is comfortably the best start to
any goalkeeper's
Premier League career as a Magpie to date: 12 Nick
Pope
7 Shay Given, Mike Hooper, Pavel Srnicek
6 Karl Darlow, Martin Dubravka, Shaka Hislop
4 Tim Krul
3 Rob Elliot, Steve Harper
By our calculations, Pope's feat of 12 clean sheets in his first 20
top-flight games is matched only by Sandy Mutch, who reached the
same total between 1922 and 1924 - albeit across two seasons.
That's now 16 times in a row Newcastle have gone in at the break
having not conceded in the PL since Ruben Neves netted
for Wolves in the first half last August. That record extends to 20
games in all competitions.
However it's now six league and cup games since we scored in the
first half.

Newcastle achieved a club record 15 top
flight games undefeated on Saturday, but frustratingly left Selhurst
Park with just one point rather than all three.
Eddie Howe's side made and missed the majority of the best chances, but
only a world class stop from Nick Pope
saved his side from an unwarranted defeat.
The United 'keeper had little to do in South London, but notched up his
sixth successive clean sheet after tipping over a fierce Jean-Philippe Mateta shot from close range in
the 73rd minute.
Chances at the other end for Dan Burn, Sven Botman, Fabian Schar and
substitute duo Alexander Isak and Allan Saint-Maximin were all wasted as
the Eagles soaked up pressure in the manner more akin to an away team.
Joelinton also hit two attempts at Palace 'keeper Vicente Guaita and
Miggy Almiron scuffed one first half effort wide and failed to get two
other efforts on target as a dominant display went unrewarded.
Despite all of those chances, Callum Wilson had a quiet day up front on
a ground he likes; his replacement Isak ideally placed for a free header
six yards out but putting it straight at Guaita.
That's now no goal in eight outings for Wilson or Joe Willock, Miggy's
purple patch ended six games ago and Jacob Murphy and Allan Saint-Maximin
both have just one strike to their name each so far this season.
Along with an unhealthy obsession with valueless short corners, the one
thing evident from our recent barren run is that the opposition
goalkeepers aren't giving particularly epic or heroic performances - too
many of their saves are of the expected variety.
Having limped off in some distress just seven days ago, there was an
unforeseen starting berth for Bruno Guimaraes and he came through 90
minutes with no obvious impediment, although not firing on all
cylinders.
Referee Craig Pawson was kept busy, cautioning four Palace players and
showing some leniency to
Marc Guehi following his early yellow card.
Kieran Trippier and Joelinton also went into his book while several
optimistic penalty
appeals were waved away and VAR wasn't troubled.
After somehow finding a way to win in the latter stages against Fulham
last time out,
the vital breakthrough eluded a Magpies side who were clad in their
white and green change kit and repeatedly barracked by home fans with
shouts of "f*ck the Saudis".
The defence once again did their job admirably, but for all the pressure
we exerted - and a string of corners - our lack of quality in the final
third made it feel like
two points dropped, not one gained.
A third 0-0 draw in four Premier League games - and a third against the
Eagles in all competitions this season - lifted Newcastle up one place
into third; Manchester United's loss at Arsenal on Sunday keeping them there.
Attention now switches away from the Premier League until after the
transfer window closes, with what looks like an eminently winnable
two-legged League Cup semi-final against a Southampton side at the foot
of the table.
The Saints did of course eliminate Manchester City in the last round -
albeit in a one-off tie - but for once it appears that Newcastle's
destiny is firmly in their own hands.
Despite the grief of getting there
by public transport, we're more than happy to accommodate a return visit
to London next month and after a lifetime of failed attempts, we'd
walk to Wembley to see them win something.
