A Magpies XI had played at Champion Hill previously,
the U18s defeating Dulwich
Hamlet
6-2 in the FA Youth Cup back in 2011.
United's second string registered a first Premier League Cup success at the
fifth time of asking on Monday, scoring
twice in added time to end their seven game winless run in all
competitions.
Fresh from his outing for the senior side on Saturday, Lewis Miley scored at
the end of both halves, sandwiching a goal from fellow first team graduate
Jay Turner-Cooke.
Playing at the Champion Hill ground of non-league Dulwich Hamlet, United
survived several scares
before going ahead in the 44th minute.
Turner-Cooke played in 16 year-old Miley and his low shot beat Owen Goodman
with the aid of a slight deflection to give Elliott Dickman's side an
interval advantage.
That lead lasted for just eight minutes of the second period however, before
goalkeeper Jude Smith parried a shot but was unable to prevent Killian
Phillips from converting the rebound.
A more even contest then saw chances at both ends; Dylan Stephenson and
Turner-Cooke coming close and Phillips striking the goal frame.
United's Charlie Wiggett made a timely block to deny Ademola Ola-Adebomi on
73 minutes, but the Eagles went ahead three minutes later when Phillips
grabbed his second of the day.
That looked to have consigned the black and whites to a seventh
successive reverse, but one manic minute in added time changed all of that.
First of all a ball into the box broke to Turner-Cooke, who fired home at
the near post in the 93rd minute.
And within seconds, Harry Barclay's pass gave Lewis Miley sight of goal and
he controlled the ball before turning and crashing his drive high into the
net to ensure victory.
With one game remaining in the group stage, United are doomed to finish in
fourth and last place - but have at least halted their winless run ahead of
January's return to PL2 action.
They'll recommence at home to Aston Villa - the first of ten games
remaining in which to try and keep up with the promotion-hunting
sides in the second tier.
