37 mins: Gaxha shot. 0-1
Half time: Magpies 0 Blades 1
Full time: Magpies 0 Blades 1
Missing from the home squad
were Lewis Miley, Alex Murphy, Dylan Stephenson, Jay Turner-Cooke and
Joe White who had flown out to
Riyadh with the first team.
That saw Santiago Munoz return to the U21 side for only his fifth
competitive outing of the season as the sun sets on his Tyneside loan
spell.
Newcastle's U21s
lost their latest Premier League Cup tie at Whitley Park on Monday evening and still
await their first point in this competition, having been
defeated in each of their first four games.
Clad in white, the visitors had the ball in the back of the net in the sixth minute
when Louie Marsh side footed home a right wing cross but was denied by
an offside flag.
But the Blades did take the lead eight minutes before the interval, when a loose ball
broke to Leo Gaxha and he lashed it beyond Jude Smith.
The home side's best effort in the first period was a tame Amadou Diallo
free-kick midway through the half that was parried by the 'keeper and
Isaac Westendorf fired the rebound into the side netting.
Seven minutes after the break Josh Scott had a long range effort turned
over and in the second minute of added time a thunderous Charlie Wiggett header
was saved one-handed by the 'keeper, who blocked the rebound from Munoz to secure the victory for his side.
Thanks again to GW.
