There was a PL2 debut for Santiago Munoz, the 35th player that United have utilised in PL2 this season.
 

Newcastle U23s regained ground in the race for promotion from PL2 Division 2, overturning a two-goal deficit to defeat rivals Norwich City on Monday.

It was a bittersweet night for United's Isaac Westendorf though; the substitute dismissed for removing his shirt as he celebrated what turned out to be the winning goal.

Despite a free ticket offer for youngsters, steady rain and the considerable distance from Norwich (an hour by road to cover 45 miles) saw only a small crowd present at the home of the National League Linnets.

Coached by former Magpie Alan Neilson, City's Flynn Clarke fired a first time shot wide in the 13th minute and five minutes later only goalkeeper Jake Turner's boot saved another effort from Clarke.

Newcastle took the lead in the 20th minute when Jay Turner-Cooke fired in a free-kick from the right hand side of the area, much as he had done at North Shields in the Northumberland Senior Cup on Thursday night.

The hosts got back on terms just after the half hour when Abu Kamara fired through Turner from inside the box. In between, some brilliant work from Adam Wilson on the left hand side of the box set up Dylan Stephenson but he stabbed his shot wide.

City went in front just 15 seconds after the break when a dangerous low ball into the box was fired home by Shae Hutchinson. And the same player scored again in the 50th minute, finding the bottom corner of the net from just inside the box.

Hutchinson would be denied the chance to complete his hat-trick however, taking a knock that saw him substituted.

Kamara looked to have got a fourth for City when he put in the rebound after Turner saved a header but the offside flag was raised.

Stephenson unselfishly set up Wilson in the 62nd minute to finish with a low strike into the far corner of the goal to get United back into the game.

Magpies coach Elliott Dickman opted to replace defender Brad Cross with striker Westendorf, dropping Niall Brookwell into the back four.

And that change almost paid immediate dividends when the new arrival somehow managed to a deep cross from the right flank that Stephenson couldn't profit from. 

Newcastle were level in the 76th minute however when Adam Wilson broke up a City attack and found Westendorf on the centre circle.

He instantly released Turner-Cooke, who strode forward and confidently beat the 'keeper for 3-3.

Both sides had chances but a draw looked likely until the final seconds, when Lucas de Bolle played in Westendorf, who beat Mair at his near post before discarding his shirt and embarking on a celebratory run that ended in front of the visiting dugout.

Sadly for him though, he'd been cautioned earlier for contesting a free kick award and was red-carded before the game restarted.

United survived added time with ten men - including a heart-stopping penalty appeal - to complete a memorable victory.

Victory moved the black and whites back up to fourth, three points behind the Canaries with two games in hand. With Fulham set to be confirmed as title winners and bagging the automatic promotion place, eight teams remain in serious contention to fill the four playoff spots.
