Storm Franklin may have battered parts of the UK earlier in the
day, but it was Storm Harris that left Newcastle's defence in
tatters on Monday evening.
The Harris in question was Fulham's Luke, who hit three goals in the
first 11 minutes of United's PL2 meeting at Whitley Park.
The Cottagers arrived top of the table having won all but three of
their 16 games this season - and took just 94 seconds to
open the scoring.
Harris was in the right place to force the ball in from close range
after a corner kick rebounded off the crossbar - and just over a
minute later he had struck again, dashing into the box to fire home.
Two became three thanks to a rerun of the opener; United's
defence static as 16 year-old Harris met another corner kick to
complete a 564-second treble.
It was 0-4 by the 20th minute, when a powerful first-time volley
from 12 yards by Kieron Bowie flew past Will Brown and into the
United net.
It took only just three minutes of the second half for Fulham to extend
their lead further; a loose ball in the box expertly dispatched past
replacement 'keeper Jake Turner by Jay Stansfield.
Joe Oliver's clumsy 55th minute foul on Harris then gave the
visitors a penalty that was converted by Sonny Hilton for 0-6.
A rare moment of relief for the hosts came on 64 minutes, when Charlie
Wiggett powerfully headed in a corner, but that was as good as
it got for a shell-shocked Magpies side.
While Fulham can confirm their automatic promotion to the PL2 First
Division with one more win, Newcastle remain among a host of sides
eyeing the playoffs.
This defeat saw them drop down to sixth; out of a playoff place but
with games in hand on the sides above them.
Having conceded nine goals in their two league meetings, the bad
news for Elliott Dickman's side is that their opponents in the Premier League
Cup will be Fulham.
