Remi Savage, Joe White, Jack Young and Elliot Anderson were all in the
starting XI, having spent time training with the senior squad since
featuring in Monday's U23 home defeat by Stoke City.
Despite opening the
scoring just two minutes after the first whistle, United U23s
suffered their fifth successive defeat in all competitions on Friday.
In blazing sunshine at Fulham's Motspur Park training ground, Magpies
striker Dylan Stephenson quickly netted his sixth goal in as many PL2 games
this season.
The hosts made and missed several chances to equalise before the interval;
Newcastle's best chance of extending their lead saw Jack Young fire wide.
Finnsh striker Terry Ablade seized on a poor back pass to level on 53
minutes before Jay Stansfield put Fulham ahead midway through the second
half with an unstoppable shot.
Cottagers Captain Connor McAvoy then headed Sonny Hilton's corner kick past
Max Thompson on 72 minutes to confirm the destination of the points.
Kevin Richardson again took charge of the side while the search for a
full-time coach continues, with ex-Magpie Shefki Kuqi among the spectators
present and rumoured to have applied for the post.
