Newcastle's second string suffered their joint biggest league defeat of the
season on Monday, conceding four times without reply to a Wolves side that
moved into the promotion playoff places as a consequence.
Wolves went ahead in the 20th minute when striker Austin Samuels turned in
the visitors' box and shot beyond Jake Turner.
United were seen as more of an attacking force towards the closing stages of
the half; Christian Atsu's run setting up top scorer Stan Flaherty for a
shot on goal in the 44th minute that was well saved.
Samuels then struck a soft second five minutes after the restart, helping
Luke Cundle's routine shot from the edge of the box into the net from six
yards.
And it was 0-3 by the 62nd minute, Lewis Richards receiving a crossfield
ball on the right before swinging over a centre for Theo Corbeanu to head in
unopposed - matching the margin of his side's victory on Tyneside earlier in
the season.
From the restart Samuels had a chance to complete his hat-trick from close
range, but was denied by Turner.
The Wolves forward did play a part in his side's fourth on 70 minutes though,
hassling Turner into a fluffed clearance that was then flighted into the
empty net by Owen Hesketh.
At that point the hosts brought top scorer Taylor Perry off the bench, but he was
unable to increase our misery any further.
