A 90th minute goal from substitute Owen Bailey gave Newcastle
victory in Norfolk on Friday - and dragged them off the bottom of
the league table.
The Magpies defender has been sidelined by injury since 2019 (538 days by
Bailey's own calculation) but took just
three minutes of his comeback to score from close range following a corner.
United began with just five of the starting line-up beaten at Leeds on
Monday, with Elliot Anderson and Christan Atsu among those dropping out.
There was a return to action for Yannick Toure for the first time since
December, while fellow forward Florent Indalecio was looking to break his
scoring duck at the ninth time of asking.
Half-chances at both ends came during a goalless first half, Newcastle's top
scorer Stan Flaherty coming close after the break with a free kick that
brought a save out of Joe Rose.
Then came the goal that ensured a first win in five games for the Magpies
and raised them two places to eleventh.
