Monday saw United U23s take a point from their rescheduled visit to wearside, ending a six game losing streak on the road in league and cup competitions stretching back to September.

Clad in their yellow change kit at the academy of plight, Newcastle added Matty Longstaff, Elliot Anderson and Tom Allan to the side beaten 1-2 by Boro at Bishop Auckland on Friday.

There was no more scoring before half time, with the home side making two changes at the interval - replacing both their goalkeeper and centre forward.

United meanwhile took off scorer Wilson as he continued his comeback, replacing him with top scorer Stan Flaherty.

The Magpies came close to going ahead through Anderson, Joe White and Longstaff, before replacement custodian Anthony Patterson denied Anderson.

Some slack work in the 85th minute gave the home side sight of goal - a failure to mark Almond from a corner - but he thankfully failed to hit the target.

Despite avoiding defeat however, the Magpies sit bottom of the Division Two table - trailing the mackems on goal difference. There's no relegation from this league.
