There was a competitive reserve debut for 16 year-old striker/midfielder
Michael Ndiweni, who scored his first U18 goal for the club last month.
Newcastle's second string were defeated for the
first time this season on Monday, deservedly losing out to
their wearside rivals at Little Benton.
The mackems hadn't won a league game anywhere since February
2019 and were winless in seven league derby meetings stretching back
to 2012.
However they dominated a first half played in rain and hail, defender Ludwig Francillette heading away a succession of crosses
from the United area.
The breakthrough came just on half-time when a right wing cross reached Josh Hawkes at the far post and his first time volley
flew past Will Brown.
United enjoyed more possession following the restart but never
looked remotely like scoring and had a let off on the hour mark when
a visiting player fired straight at Brown with the whole goal to aim
at.
The second goal was only delayed until the 66th minute, when Benjamin Mbunga
Kimpioka strode into the area and lifted the ball over the
'keeper.
A third mackem goal arrived when Brown missed a 71st minute shot
from captain Ciaran Dunne and the misery was complete ten minutes
later when Swedish U21 international Kimpioka got his second from the penalty spot after being fouled in
the box.
