The U23s were away to Boro in Premier
League 2 at Bishop Auckland's Heritage Park home and scored two second half
goals to complete our derby double.
After a tame first half which United shaded, they took the
lead in the 57th minute thanks to a low drive into the corner of the net by
Elliot Anderson - his sixth reserve goal in all competitions. Tom Allan then doubled the lead in the 64th minute running
onto a perfectly weighted through ball from Anderson and side-footing home
to extend his seasonal league and cup tally to 17 this season. The hosts were reduced to ten men in the fifth minute of
added time when Nathan Wood was dismissed for hauling back Yannick Toure who
was through on goal. A third successive league win and clean sheet for the U23s
moves them up to a season high sixth spot, raising hopes of snaring a
promotion playoff spot in their four remaining fixtures. There was a return for midfielder Kyle Scott following
groin surgery but Elias Sorensen was still suspended after his red card in
the Tyne-wear derby.
