Newcastle's U23 side recorded their most resounding victory of the season on Monday afternoon, scoring four goals without reply in Premier League 2 at Landore.

Clad in their orange change kit they got off to the perfect start when some awful defending allowed Adam Wilson to finish from close range after just 39 seconds of play.

The Magpies then doubled their advantage in the 56th minute after Yannick Toure carried the ball forward from halfway deep into the City area.

Evading two defenders on the byline, the striker had the presence of mind to pull the ball back and find Rosaire Longelo, who tucked away his fifth league and cup goal of the season.

Two then became three on 68 minutes, when the ball sat up nicely in the area for Elias Sorensen to shoot home his first goal of the season.

Sorensen turned provider 11 minutes from time, finding space on the right side of the area before teeing up Yannick Toure, who slammed the ball into the roof of the net from inside the six yard box.

A rerun of that move looked certain to result in a fifth goal on 85 minutes, but City custodian Lewis Webb denied Toure and then blocked another shot from the same player moments after.

Absent today were Tom Allan, Ludwig Francillette, Jack Young and Liam Gibson which may indicate possible inclusion in Tuesday's first team squad for the FA Cup replay at Oxford. Despite being named on the bench, Sorensen was in the starting XI wearing 16, with Ryan Barrett standing down.

There were debuts at this level for George Rounsfell and Joe Oliver, the latter who arrived as a second half replacement.
