St. James' Park once
again proved to be anything but a happy hunting ground for Newcastle's U23 side,
who lost for the fourth successive time in the league at the "big
ground."
A game that was low on thrills was scoreless at the interval, Luke Charman
heading wide from six yards in the sixteenth minute when it looked
easier to score and visiting goalkeeper Josh Gould denying Jack Young soon
after.
Home custodian Dan Langley kept it scoreless at the other end in first half
added time; saving with his feet from Oli Cooper
on 45 minutes before Oliver Walters saw a drive deflected narrowly over the
Swansea bar.
The visitors wasted an excellent chance to break the deadlock ten minutes into
the second half, Liam Cullen blazing a volley over the bar from just
three yards out. And with Tom Allan unable to extend his recent scoring run
before going off, this had 0-0 written all over it.
Swansea however had other ideas, snatching the points in the third minute of
five added on, Cooper nodding in Matthew Blake's free kick in off the bar to
notch his fourth goal in two games.
Neil Redfearn's side ended the game with two teenagers in midfield; Joe
White on the eve of his 17th birthday and 16 year-old Elliot Anderson.
Many thanks to GW. |
