Rafa Benitez:
“I don’t care too much about the result, it’s only pre-season.
“It’s good to have a clean sheet but they created enough chances to win the
game.
“Obviously you could see the difference between the team that is playing in
the Super Cup next week.
“They are a team that’s really good in Europe and every week.
“So they are a top side and a team with new players and they have a learning
process from last year.”
About Mitrovic:
“I think it’s done.
“I think he has an agreement with Fulham and I wish him all the best.
Hopefully he can score a lot of goals but not against us.
“But it’s something we were expecting and it’s now a case of looking to see
if we can bring someone else to replace him.
“We are working and trying to bring in new players to bring in new
competition.”
About Muto:
“Muto is done but it’s just waiting for the work permit. He played in the
World Cup in a good team.
“He has done well in the Bundesliga so we are talking about a striker that
is doing well in the last few years at international level.
“He has quality and can bring us energy and good movement plus the intensity
you need. I don’t see any problem with him.”
About Lejeune:
“It is a cruciate ligament and he will need an operation.
“We need to decide exactly when but we will lose him for a while. It’s bad
news for us.”
About the tributes to Sir Bobby Robson:
“It was nice.
“To show that you have the recognition at both FC Porto and Newcastle United
is just a measure of the man.”
Sérgio Conceição said:
“We can’t forget that the average club in England or Germany has more
purchasing power than a strong club in Portugal. We are a country of sellers not buyers.”
There was a first outing for defender Fabian Schär
following his arrival from Deportivo La Coruna.
This was United's first visit to
the 50,000 capa city Porto Dragao Stadium - a venue constructed for Euro 2004 and the inspiration for Brighton's Amex Stadium.
The Magpies had visited Porto previously, drawing 0-0 in the Fairs Cup back
in November 1969 - a tie played at their former Stadium das Antas home.

Game three of pre-season saw Newcastle hold the
reigning Portuguese champions FC Porto to a goalless draw at their own
ground on Saturday evening.
On a night when United's goal threat was almost non-existent, only a prolonged
rearguard action prevented Porto from marking their 125th anniversary with
victory in front of their own supporters.
DeAndre Yedlin
cleared a first half header off the line and both Martin Dubravka and Karl
Darlow made noteworthy saves to keep out the home side - while Iker Casillas
(and two second half goalkeeping subs) twiddled their thumbs at the other end
of the field.
There were first pre-season appearances for Dubravka, Paul Dummett and new
signing Fabian Schär, with 21 of the 25 players named in the matchday party
involved.
However, Dwight Gayle left unused after warming up while fellow striker
Aleksandar Mitrovic left the squad before the game after a fee with Fulham was
agreed.
In addition to the goalkeeping display, the goal frame at one end of the
impressive Dragao Stadium also rescued the Magpies, Porto striking both post and bar in
the second half as a home goal looked increasingly inevitable.
United donned their new second kit while Porto wore their traditional blue
and white stripes in the first half and then an all-blue anniversary kit after the
break.
The
game ended with a United fielding a front three of Academy graduates in the form
of messrs Armstrong, Roberts and Longstaff, while Jamie Sterry
occupied the right back position to increase the surrealist feeling.
It's a long way to come to watch some reserves - especially for fans who usually
cannot find their way to Whitley Park - and it's a safe bet that none of those
will be in the first XI on opening day, while some if not all could well be
playing in another league altogether.
