Newcastle's experiment of transmitting reserve games live from St. James' Park continued on Monday - but those who tuned in could have been forgiven for switching over to Gogglebox or Bake Off.  

One Saudi-based diehard moaned about his picture continually freezing, but sadly the 721 fans inside the ground endured a similarly poor quality view....

Despite including Dwight Gayle, Rolando Aarons, Jack Colback and Henri Saivet in their starting XI, United struggled to find any rhythm in their play and took well over an hour to pressurise Wolves.

Coached by former Magpie Scott Sellars, Wolves went ahead after ten minutes when striker Donovan Wilson beat Freddie Woodman with the aid of a deflection.

Gayle had the ball in the net in the 26th minute but had already been flagged offside and saw a later header cleared off the line by Cameron John from a corner.

Those were rare high spots though, in a first half when Peter Beardsley's side actually looked to be hindered by the higher-profile inclusions - Colback rusty in his first game since Mainz in July and Aarons not at the races. 

The visitors never really threatened to increase their lead and progress towards an expected equaliser came once Gayle had completed his allotted 60 minutes.

Luke Charman moved infield to a more familiar role and Yasin Ben El-Mhanni arrived to patrol down the right - the substitute seeing an effort miraculously cleared off the line by Anthony Breslin from underneath his bar.

Pressure on Wolves intensified as time passed and Kyle Cameron raced in on goal after 80 minutes, only to direct his shot straight at goalkeeper Harry Burgoyne.

However a lack of quality from the flanks and more indifferent set pieces resulted in the visitors taking maximum points on a massively frustrating evening.
