Despite leading at the break thanks to Luke Charman's effort, Newcastle U23s
lost out to a Norwich side who took full advantage of an eight minute purple
patch.
A low-key affair at Whitley Park had been short on incident until midfielder Dan Barlaser robbed a
City player in the visitors' half to start an attack - Charman turning home a
rebound for a third goal in two games after Victor Fernandez saw his first effort
blocked.
There was almost a second just before half-time but after good combination
play between Charman and Fernandez, the Spaniard's shot was deflected wide.
Matz Sels had been tested by a couple of dangerous balls into the area before
the break but was unable to prevent a 57th minute equaliser, Diallang Jaiyesimi
tapping in Glenn Middleton's centre at the back post.
That goal inspired Norwich and they went ahead just five minutes later, an
excellent dipping shot by Ebou Adams from the edge of the area flying past Sels.
City looked to have grabbed a third two minutes later, Jaiyesimi letting fly
as he broke into the box - only to see his effort ricochet down off the
crossbar.
Late efforts from substitute pair Jamie Holmes and Dan Ward warmed the hands
of Canaries
