1-3 there in the league four days earlier, Newcastle U23s returned to Swansea for a Premier League Cup tie at City's Landore Training
Ground - a short distance away from the Liberty Stadium.
An early clash of heads between United's Jack Hunter and Tom Dyson saw the
latter replaced, but visiting midfielder Hunter was OK to continue.
After netting here on Monday, Tom Heardman turned provider as United went
ahead after 15 minutes, Adam Wilson taking a pass and firing home his first reserve goal from the edge of the box.
Heardman then missed the chance to double the lead just after the half hour,
taking down Dan Ward's left wing cross but shooting wide with the goal gaping.
However, United went in at half time with the lead thanks to a crucial
interception from Callum Williams, who beat Adnan Maric to a dangerous low
centre.
Into the second half, and Wilson came close to his and Newcastle's second on
the hour but the ball was scrambled clear.
That lead was wiped out on 61 minutes though, as Jordan Garrick advanced down
the left before sending over a cross that Biabi dispatched past Ben Smith.
The Swans then went ahead six minutes later, when Aaron Lewis found space on
the right flank. His ball into the box was deflected on to the far post and
dropped nicely for Maric to scoop home.
Attempting to restore parity, Heardman saw his 74th minute effort turned round
the post by Lewis Thomas and the Magpies striker then fired wide after Jamie
Holmes set him up in the closing stages.
However a much-altered City side held on to record their second win of the
week against Newcastle - and a tenth successive victory in all competitions.
PS: there was a first outing at reserve team level for 19 year-old 'keeper Ben
Smith.
