United's second
string extended their unbeaten run in Premier League 2 to five games on
Friday, thanks to a second victory in five days.
Originally scheduled to face Stoke at their adopted home of Leek Town in an
evening kick-off, a late alteration saw the game brought forward to 2pm at the Potters' Clayton Wood Training Ground.
At the interval the Magpies were two ahead, Curtis Good notching his second
goal in as many games to head in a Callum Roberts corner on 27 minutes.
Luke Charman then doubled the lead nine minutes before the break, Roberts
again the provider.
And having set up four goals in Monday's win over Aston Villa and another
brace against the Potters, Roberts then got on the scoresheet himself.
Going down under challenge in the area, Callum got up to convert the resultant
spot kick five minutes into the second period.
Coached by ex-Magpie Glyn Hodges, Stoke did get on the scoresheet on 70
minutes through Daniel Jarvis and then made it 2-3 with 13 minutes left when
Jake Dunwoody fired past Freddie Woodman from close in.
Newcastle saw the game out though and came close to grabbing a fourth goal
when substitute Liam Smith rattled the City crossbar in the 81st minute.
The three points lifted United to second spot in the table behind Swansea City .
