Following a 3-2 league victory over Swansea City at Whitley Park last Monday, the sides faced each other again at the same venue in a cup tie on Friday which ended in an instantly forgettable stalemate.

The Swans went closest in the 19th minute when Ryan Blair bulleted a long range effort that hit the underside of the bar and may have crossed the line but the referee waved play-on and Freddie Woodman gathered the loose ball.

Peter Beardsley's side's only real chance came just after the half hour when Sean Longstaff's goalbound shot hit a colleague and was deflected wide of the target.

The goalless draw gave United a point in their group stage. Trips to Bristol City (7th Nov) and Southampton (2nd Dec) are next up in this competition.
