1-0
United faced their Northern League Second Division hosts to mark completion of improvements at Grounsell Park, including new floodlights and a small seated area. It's also exactly a century since the Stan were elected as members of the Northumberland FA. Clad in their grey change kit, Newcastle grabbed a tenth minute lead when Macaulay Gillesphey was fouled in the box by Michael Creswick, Tom Heardman converting the resultant spot kick. Greg Olley then doubled the lead four minutes later with a solo effort and it was 3-0 after 21 minutes, when left back Liam Gibson burst into the Stan box before crossing for Callum Roberts to sidefoot in. Roberts got his second and United's fourth after 32 minutes, shooting low past 'keeper, Shaun Backhouse, and a minute later Gibson did the same. The home side reduced the arrears in the 40th minute when Dean Deagle thumped home a fine free-kick. Beardsley made four changes at the break, with defender Kevin Mbabu completing 45 minutes on his comeback after sustaining an injury while on close season international duty with Switzerland.
