Is there something in the water round here?

A century after last playing in Burton, Monday saw Newcastle debut at Albion's Pirelli Stadium - a short walk from site of the Derby Turn ground that hosted our record first team defeat (0-9 to Burton Wanderers in 1895).

Those watching the U21s this season have seen an average of five goals per game and it took barely four minutes for normal service to be resumed.

United went ahead from their first attack of the game, when Adam Campbell exchanging passes with Adam Armstrong, who tipped the ball over the advancing Benjamin Siegrist, two defenders rushing back but both failing to get a enough of a touch to keep the ball out.

That was Armstrong's sixth reserve goal of the season and a second strike in as many visits to Burton - having netted here for England U17s back in August.

However the Villans were level on seven minutes when striker Callum Robinson was allowed time and space to shoot past Jak Alnwick from the edge of the area.

Gael Bigirimana contrived to pick up a caution on 25 minutes, stupidly kicking the ball away as the referee lectured him for a foul.

And a half chance two minutes later saw a long diagonal ball from Kyle Cameron seized upon by Campbell, who made his way into the box before shooting across goal.

Showing better movement and passing accuracy, Villa threatened more as the half wore on and a swift counter attack down their right flank ended with Graham Burke driving against the woodwork - the ball rebounding back off Alnwick but wide of the goal and away for a corner.

The Magpies custodian was called into action on 37 minutes, blocking an effort from Burke with his feet after Jordan Graham eluded his marker out on the touchline.

However Alnwick was helpless to prevent Villa taking the lead shortly after, United full back James Morgan getting to a low centre ahead of Robinson but inadvertantly tucking it inside the post from close range.

Robinson almost claimed his second of the night in first half added time, but failed to connect with an inviting cross Graham on the right at the back post.

The second half saw United appear with both wide men having been replaced, Alex Gilliead and Jonathyn Quinn making way for Olivier Kemen and Greg Olley.

Alnwick was called into action again on 57 minutes, blocking an effort from the lively Burke as Villa continued to make most of the running and regularly stretched a visiting defence including U21 debutant Kyle Cameron.

Graham then made progress in from the Villa left and was eventually brought to ground by Lubo Satka for an obvious penalty after 65 minutes. That was converted by Villa's captain Daniel Johnson and although Alnwick made contact, he was unable to prevent it from going in.

Looking to force their way back into the game, neat work between Haris Vuckic and Campbell gave Bigirimana sight of goal on 75 minutes, but his weak shot was no threat.

Campbell then came even closer 90 seconds later after his pace took him beyond the Villa defence and Siegirst. Sadly though his effort was cleared by a defender as it bounced towards the unguarded net.

Vuckic then looked to have set up an interesting finale on 78 minutes when he curled in a decent effort from 18 yards to make it 2-3. Olley's alertness saw him nod a loose ball towards Campbell just inside the box, but he shot agonisingly wide.

And from Villa's next attack they made the points safe when Robinson claimed his second of the game, firing beyond Alnwick. Robinson then took a pass from Jerell Sellars for his hat trick goal in added time before the final score was given an even more flattering look when Johnson notched seconds later, with United's defence all at sea.
