Wednesday evening saw United's second string in action against Consett, as the Steelmen played their farewell game at Belle Vue, their home since 1950.

Having almost put his side ahead in the opening seconds. Brad Inman gave the visitors an eighth minute lead when bursting through the Consett defence, drawing 'keeper, Peter Jameson and confidently firing in.

United were on the back foot for the majority of the first half thereafter though, Jonathan Mitchell tipping away efforts from Aristote Guerin-Lokonga and Carl Piecha and most of our counter-attacks ending up offside.

Just a minute after the break the lead was doubled when Inman was upended as he tried to round the 'keeper and James Tavernier converted the spot-kick.

Inman then got his second just three minutes later with a routine finish, shooting low from the edge of the box before Mitchell palmed away a fierce free kick from Mark Eccles at the other end.

Rolando Aarons made it 4-0 from close range in the 54th minute when Jonathyn Quinn's initial shot was blocked, before substitute Quinn then supplied a fifth seven minutes later from similar distance.

Defender Remie Streete completed Newcastle's half dozen a minute from time, turning to shoot home after a corner wasn't cleared.

Belle Vue will officially close its doors following Sunday's League Cup Final between Spennymoor Town and Newcastle Benfield at Noon on Sunday. Consett will then relocate to a new ground currently under construction at Crookhall.
