Reserve coach Willie Donachie:

"Massadio's getting used to the whole culture of the place. It is very difficult for him, but he's got a strong left foot. He's a nice person to go with it but it will take him a while to settle in. But I'm sure he'll be fine.

"It's always nice to get a win and a first clean sheet of the season too. It was just good to get games for Michael Richardson, Alex Nicholson, Nile Ranger, Sammy Ameobi and Tav.

"The more experienced players needed a good run out. All of the players involved have a lot to learn but it is an ongoing process. We had a couple of first year Academy lads playing like Quinny and Greg Olley, so it's good for them to gain that experience."

After scoring five in each of the two meetings earlier in the season, Newcastle Reserves added another three to their tally against a mediocre Stoke side at Darsley Park on Friday afternoon.

In conditions that were breezy but not quite on a par with the gale force winds of the previous week's game, Nile Ranger got the ball tangled under his feet in the opening exchanges and was unable to get his shot off.

Playing his second reserve game, Massadio Haidara then pushed forward from left back to put his side ahead with a run into the box and neat low finish. And with United dominating, the lead was doubled when  James Tavernier set up Adam Campbell. His goalbound shot from the edge of the box deflected a defender's boot to wrongfoot the 'keeper - his seventh goal of the season.

Jonathyn Quinn then made it 3-0 in the 54th minute to mark his first reserve start, trying his luck from 18 yards and beat the slow-moving Dan Backman. And with home 'keeper Jak Alnwick dealing with a couple of half chances, his side's dominance should have been reflected in a more convincing scoreline as United's winless run of seven league and cup games ended.

The game saw successful returns from injury for both Alex Nicholson and Michael Richardson while there were debuts at this level for Greg Olley and Rolando Aarons. Surprise inclusion Nile Ranger however did nothing to further his cause of playing football - either here or loan elsewhere.
