United's second string recorded a first clean sheet in nine league games on Thursday afternoon in what was a tepid affair played out at Whitley Park.

Greg McDermott's header against the Rovers crossbar early in the second period proved to be the nearest that the home side came to finding the net, while at the other end goalkeeper Jak Alnwick was barely tested.
