Tuesday afternoon saw United's second string extend their unbeaten run this season to six games - finally registering a first win at Wigan's Robin Park in the process.

Having not won a reserve game away to the Latics since their Springfield Park days, our sixth visit to their current reserve venue ended in a comfortable success, thanks to goals in each half from Haris Vuckic and Mehdi Abeid.

The home side had looked more threatening in the opening quarter of the game, only for Vuckic to fire home from 20 yards just before the half hour mark - picking up a loose ball before registering his first league goal of the season.

A second goal for the Slovenian was then prevented on 55 minutes when a defender cut out a dangerous centre from Sammy Ameobi, while United's Rob Elliot was called into action to deny teenage midfielder Tim Chow.

Newcastle's 20th reserve strike of the season arrived with 15 minutes remaining, Mehdi Abeid becoming our eleventh different scorer when blasting home from the corner of the box - the force of the shot seeing the ball bounce back off the stanchion at the back of Lee Nicholls' goal.

This victory extended our lead at the top of the table to six points, with nearest challengers Manchester United having a game in hand.

Magpies @ Robin Park:

2010/11 lost 1-2 McLaughlin
2008/09 lost 1-2 Ranger
2007/08 lost 0-2
2006/07 drew 1-1 Godsmark
2005/06 drew 1-1 Chopra (pen)
