Our last two away reserve games ended in 1-5 losses to the two Manchester sides
and Tuesday night looked like bringing further misery in the North West for the
Magpies after a wretched first half at the Lancashire FA ground in Leyland.
Bolton went ahead from their first attack on four minutes, when Adam Blakeman
beat United 'keeper Ole Soderberg. And despite seeing the home side reduced to
ten men when Elliott Dennis dragged a goalbound Brad Inman back, the Trotters
then doubled their lead through Tom Eaves just after the quarter hour.
And by the 38th minute United were four down, after Glaswegian striker Michael
O'Halloran found the net twice in quick succession - United caught out trying to
reduce the arrears at the other end. Sammy Ameobi then got one back eight
minutes after the restart with his fourth reserve strike of the season in as
many starts - and within two minutes Australian midfielder Brad Inman had made
it 2-4.
United's pressure then told on 74 minutes when 16 year-old forward Adam Campbell
marked only his second reserve team appearance with a first goal at this level.
However, Peter Beardsley's side were unable to find a leveller and Bolton held
on for the win.
Right back Alex Nicholson marked his 17th birthday with a first reserve start,
while 16 year-old centre half made his second string debut.
PS: Our last four reserve games have now produced a total of 25 goals!
