It's now three victories out of three on their travels this season for Peter Beardsley's second string, who came from behind to win at Bloomfield Road on Wednesday afternoon.

The Tangerines took a 22nd minute lead through striker Ishmel Demontagnac, who was on hand to tuck away the rebound when United 'keeper Ole Soderberg parried a Liam Tomsett free kick from distance.

That had come slightly against the run of the play, Shane Ferguson twice getting down the United left to send over crosses that Nile Ranger couldn't quite connect with.

Meanwhile both Paddy McLaughlin and Ryan Donaldson tried their luck with shots, before the former played in Ranger just after the half hour - only for the forward to shoot weakly at home 'keeper Mark Halstead.

Blackpool came close to extending their lead on 34 minutes, Soderberg gathering a header at the second attempt from former Walsall striker Demontagnac, who had been left unmarked in front of goal.

United then ended the half brightly, Donaldson shooting into the side netting after James Tavernier dispossessed a home defender before Phil Airey came close - only to see his effort blocked by former Magpie junior Chris Basham.

Chances continued to crop up at both ends of the field following the restart, with Ranger unable to direct his header from Ferguson's cross on target, before Soderberg made another noteworthy stop.

Blackpool it was though who doubled their advantage on 65 minutes, Thomas Barkhuizen shooting from an acute angle and seeing his shot go in off the United 'keeper.

That kick-started Newcastle though and within three minutes they'd reduced the arrears, Phil Airey lobbing the advancing Halstead and putting just enough power on his effort to prevent a defender from reaching it.

Heavy pressure in the 73rd minute could have led to an equaliser, with Paul Dummett's shot cleared off the line and substitute Michael Richardson taking an extra touch when a shooting opportunity presented itself.

However United made it 2-2 with 14 minutes remaining, after Danny Simpson's shot was blocked at the expense of a corner. From Airey's flag kick, the ball fell to Nile Ranger in the box and he converted with a low effort.

Without a win in their maiden season of Premier Reserve League participation, Blackpool by this point looked demoralised and out of steam and United completed their comeback with what proved to be the winner on 79 minutes.

The persistence of Michael Richardson in reaching a loose ball and cutting it back from the byline was rewarded with a first time shot by Nile Ranger from almost on the penalty spot, for his third reserve goal of the campaign.

And Ranger could have completed his hat trick in the closing stages, only to fluff his effort after Airey had helped on a Richardson cross.

The three points were duly collected though and full back Danny Simpson completed the full 90 minutes - his second reserve outing since returning from injury.

Danny Guthrie meanwhile didn't feature in the Newcastle party and there's speculation that after one comeback game in the reserves, he could return to the first team squad for Saturday's home meeting with Wigan.
