United brought their reserve league season to a disappointing conclusion when they succumbed to their heaviest defeat in over three years, Gary Ablett's Reds side rousing themselves to avoid a last place finish.

Our unbeaten run of ten matches came to an abrupt halt and United were ripped apart from the first whistle as Liverpool cosmopolitan side galloped into a three goal lead in the opening half hour.

Spanish defender Mikel San Jose nodded in a corner in the 12th minute before French striker David Ngog tucked the ball past Ole Soderberg after a strong run just three minutes later.

His fellow countryman Damien Plessis then got on the end of a free-kick to flick the ball home with 27 minutes on the clock, as a rout looked on the cards.

However, credit to our lads who made it to half-time without conceding further and after the introduction of Brad Inman held until the 80th minute, when substitute Danny Pacheco hit a stunning free-kick to make it four.

Slovenian youngster Haris Vuckic grabbed our consolation goal two minutes later, stabbing home a rebound after Nile Ranger had his shot parried by Dean Bouzanis.

However, Spanish youngster Pacheco ran clear of the defence with four minutes remaining and coolly slotted past Soderberg to complete the scoring.

Newcastle ended the season in fourth spot, after this defeat in what was rumoured to be the final reserve fixture at Warrington's rugby league ground.

Where the roaming Reds will resurface next season remains to be seen, after previous temporary relocations to St.Helens, Chester, Southport and Wrexham - while Toon groundhoppers have also seen reserve games hosted at Anfield and the Melwood Training Ground.

Whether we're there to see it though remains to be seen, with a rule change now meaning that relegation from the Premier League also means automatic demotion from the Premier Reserve League.

We may still be on the M62 next season - but only as far as Huddersfield....
