We Said

Interim Coach Richard Money commented:

““We played very well and I was extremely pleased with the lads. If we can find that high level of performance in every game this season I’d be happy.

“What cost us was a mad five minutes after half-time when Bolton scored two goals.

“Other than that we created a few good chances, and if one had gone in it could have been different.”

Waffle

Having lost their season opener to the mackems by the odd goal in three, the second string were beaten again in Lancashire, Bolton recovering from a 5-1 battering by Blackburn in their first game.

Despite being the brighter of the two sides until that point, United fell behind ten minutes before the interval when fit-again 'keeper Tim Krul collided with a defender, allowing Campbell to finish.

Krul then made amends with two good stops on his comeback, but could do nothing to prevent Vaz Te from beating him on 50 minutes - to the delight of Trotters coach Alan Cork.

And the man from Lisbon was involved again soon after, setting up Woolfe for Bolton's
third as Newcastle failed to win this fixture for a fourth successive season.

The best Newcastle could muster were wayward efforts from Godsmark, Doninger and Danquah in the opening period of the game - with former Magpie junior Chris Basham impressing in central defence for the home side.

Following the removal of coach Adam Sadler, Academy Director Richard Money took charge of
the side, assisted by Robbie Elliott and Alan Thompson.
