Adam Sadler commented:
“It was a fantastic performance
and the lads have shown great character to come back from behind.
“Wesley has shown what he can do with a
great performance to score his second in as many games, which is great for him.
“Big Andy has again put in a good shift
and gained his reward from a fantastic Doninger corner.
“Jonny Godsmark rounded it off with a good
goal as well, so I am very happy.
“What pleased me most about the game was
the lads’ spirit and their attitude after they went a goal down.”
After an encouraging 3-0 success over Everton
last week, our reserves headed for the Lancashire coast on Monday night and
recorded back to back wins in the league for the first time this season.
Facing Rovers reserves at their adopted Christie Park home in Morecambe, United
striker Wesley Ngo Baheng carved out the first opening on 10 minutes, only to be
blocked in the box by a defender as he shaped to shoot.
Within a minute though Rovers were ahead after Andy Carroll lost possession and
the ball reached Alan Judge, the Irish U21 international midfielder shooting
past Ole Soderberg in the Newcastle goal.
Midway through the first half though United levelled, as Baheng followed
up his maiden club strike in the Senior last week by notching a first league
goal in similar fashion to the effort against Whitley Bay.
Enter Andy Carroll, who almost atoned for his earlier error on 26 minutes, only
to see Faroe Islands-born 'keeper Gunnar Neilsen block his header from Edgar's
centre.
Carroll got another header on goal just after the half hour, but wasn't
to be denied eight minutes before the interval as he headed home for his seventh
goal in five appearances at this level.
And there was almost another for the England U19 international striker, who put
an effort narrowly wide in added time at the end of the first half.
A quieter second half saw the visitors seldom threatened by Rovers, with Baheng
coming close to extending the lead when his shot skimmed the crossbar.
Magpiea coach Adam Sadler swapped Italian-born forward Fabio Zamblera for
Carroll and it was the substitute who set up Jonny Godsmark to drive home
a third four minutes from the final whistle.
