We Said

Debutant coach Adam Sadler commented:

"It was the classic game of two halves.

“We gave ourselves a mountain to climb by going 3-0 down and the manner in which we conceded the goals was disappointing.

“However, you always ask for spirit and fight in those situations and we got that.

“What was nice was the way we did not crumble. Even when it got to 4-0 they could so easily have folded, but they didn’t.

“They fought and fought and gave themselves something to build on next time.

"There was a penalty turned down and two other chances which might have gone in on a different day.”

New reserve coach Adam Sadler got off to an awful start as his side trailed by three goals inside the first 24 minutes at a chilly Kingston Park on Monday evening.

Keith Treacy's low shot from the edge of the box after just four minutes was followed by a Marcus Marshall header from a corner after 21 minutes.

And just three minutes later Josh O'Keefe played a neat one-two before bursting into the area and firing home via an upright.

It could have been worse with the visitors hitting the post through Judge six minutes before half-time but it remained 3-0 to the visitors at the break.

However, ten minutes into the second period Jamie Clark turned on the edge of the area and shot past Fraser Forster to make it 4-0 to Rovers.

Substitute Frank Danquah pulled one back from the spot on 83 minutes after a handball was spotted by referee Collin.

And three minutes later Tony Kane put into his own net from close range as Jonny Godsmark tried to bundle the ball over the line following Ameobi's shot on goal.

But a disputed penalty and an own goal did little to mask the inadequacies of the previous 82 minutes.
