Pattison tapped the ball off to Luque, and he bettered his earlier effort by thumping the ball into the top corner. 3-0 89 mins Fowler smashed the ball home from five yards after a cross from the left from Zenden to give the hosts a consolation. 3-1 90 mins Finnigan made it 4-1 in stoppage time after being picked out in the box by Troisi. 4-1 Full time: Liverpool 1 Newcastle 4
Lee Clark commented: "We fielded a young side against a very strong experienced Liverpool team that are well respected, but we didn't fear them. "Albert Luque was a great example to our younger players with his two goals and he showed the right attitude on the night. "Like all senior players he has a point to prove, and he could not have done anymore - he was fantastic. "But overall everybody was superb, even the young lads who came on. They gave maximum effort and worked very well with and without the ball. "The only disappointment is it could have been a lot more than 4-1, and we would always like to keep a clean sheet too. But we have to be happy. Olly got a good 90 minutes under his belt and is edging closer to his target. That's what you use these games for."
Forgotten man Albert Luque scored twice as Newcastle Reserves recorded a resounding victory over Liverpool's second string at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground on Tuesday evening. The Spaniard certainly had his shooting boots on, marking his second string debut with two shots flying in from over 30 yards, after Dudek had earlier saved one from a similar distance. After Luque thumped in the opener on 25 minutes, Australian youngster James Troisi weighed in with his first league goal at this level. And was 3-0 midway through the second half when Luque upstaged himself by lashing in a 35-yarder that flew into the top corner leaving Jerzy Dudek helpless. Robbie Fowler got one back for the home side in the final minute but Carl Finnigan restored the three goal advantage in injury time after good work from Troisi. |
