Tommy
Craig's reserve side eased into their pre-season schedule with a single
goal success at a sunny Belle Vue on Monday.
Liam Atkin shot past his former Academy colleague Adam Bartlett to put
United ahead in the 29th minute, barely a minute after United's Phil Cave
had cleared off his own goal line.
And that ultimately proved the difference between the two sides, although
the home side came close to levelling through Bulford, who saw his
goalbound effort diverted on to the post by Krul just before the half time
interval.
With
Consett making frequent substitutions as the second half wore on, the
Magpies had opportunities to extend their advantage.
However Alan O'Brien saw his free kick saved and then dragged his shot
wide from point blank range after having raced away from the home defence
with three minutes remaining.
