Our second string were in action at the Ewen
Fields round of non-league side Hyde United on Thursday evening against
Manchester United.
Having made the early running we were pegged back on 23 minutes after a
dubious decision to penalise Magpies defender David Edgar for handball gave
the home side a penalty.
Giuseppe Rossi duly dispatched the spot kick beyond Tim Krul to put the Red
Devils ahead - a lead Rossi almost doubled just before the break, only to be
foiled by a good save from the young Toon 'keeper.
After the break we quickly conceded a second to recently-arrived substitute
winger Sean Evans, before that man Rossi made it three from close range at
the near post on 67 minutes.
A low drove then saw Rossi complete his hat trick with six minutes remaining
to complete our misery on a night when 'keeper Krul was our best player.
