Our Pontins league side returned to winning ways on Thursday afternoon at Whitley Park after their disappointing defeat earlier in the week at Darlington. And although we comprehensively beat Boston, our domination wasn't reflected in a final goal tally that could have been doubled were it not for some profligacy in front of goal by strikers Guy and Chopra, in front of a watching Sir Bobby Robson. It took 34 minutes for Newcastle to open the scoring, when Ramage stretched to meet Brittain's free kick from the right but didn't look to have touched it. However his presence was enough for Boston's former Scunthorpe and Grimsby 'keeper Steve Croudson to fumble his take and allow the ball to squirm away from him over the line for an og. Three minutes later and there was no doubt about the scorer this time, as Alan O'Brien made progress down the left flank and cut infield to find Lewis Guy. He laid the ball back to Bradley Orr, who drove home from 18 yards. And the goal of the game arrived just four minutes after the restart and was an absolute gem from Bradley Orr, who picked up the ball on the edge of the centre circle in the Boston half, just to the right of the goal and cracked in a shot that flew over the 'keeper - around 45 yards. In a quiet final half hour,
substitute Andy Ferrell was booked for a foul on Hocking just
moments after coming on to the field, while Orr almost completed his hat trick
in the final few minutes of the match, when O'Brien crossed from the left for
Finnigan to challenge with the 'keeper and the ball to drop loose on the edge of
the box to Orr, but he couldn't convert what was only a half-chance. Reports |
