5 mins Ameobi shot 1-0 53 mins Orr shot 3-2 Full time: Bolton 2 Newcastle 3
Tommy Craig said: "We played well last night and I've got to say that we are playing pacy, high-tempo stuff these days which quite naturally I am trying to keep going. "This was a particularly hard-earned win because Bolton had such a strong team out on the night." "We started very brightly and Shola grabbed a great individual goal after a fine solo run and Martin Brittain cut the ball back well from the right to get that own goal. "Indeed Brittain and Kris Gate had an excellent time down our right hand side and we are pleased with them considering they were in our academy side last season. "But Brazilian Mario Jardel was always going to give us problems because of the sort of player he is but even though he scored twice I thought Stevie Caldwell and Steven Taylor handled him very well. "When Bolton drew level at 2-2 it was anybody's game but Hugo Viana pulled out all the stops for us in midfield and with Bradley Orr he took a grip on the middle of the park. "So it was fitting that it should be Bradley Orr who grabbed our third goal with a 25-yarder not long into the second half."
Bradley Orr scored a spectacular winner on
Monday evening, as our Premier reserve side ensured that struggling Bolton
remained bottom of the table with five straight defeats. On a wet night at the home of the Lancashire FA, United appeared in their black away strip and Shola Ameobi fired Newcastle into the lead after just five minutes with a low shot after skipping past three defenders. It was 2-0 three minutes later when an Orr cross from the right evaded Michael Chopra but went in off Trotters defender, Bedi Buval. Back came Wanderers with two goals from Brazilian Jardel, who first of all had an effort chalked off before levelling the scores with precise finishes on 14 and 33 minutes. What then proved to be the winning
goal arrived on 53 minutes, when midfielder Bradley Orr capped a fine
performance with a stunning 20 yard strike that flew into the top left hand
corner of the net. A booking from Ambrose just after
the hour then saw him withdrawn and replaced by Andy Ferrell, who then shot wide
from a good position in front of goal to keep home hopes alive. Biffa |
