Goals

13 mins Scott Marshall jinked in from the left flank and was clipped in the area by Fisher. The referee awarded an undisputed penalty and Offiong shot home into the centre of the goal  1-0

Half time: Saints 0 Newcastle 1

64 mins Same scorer, but far more memorable, as Offiong picked the ball up on the halfway line down the United left and set off for goal, leaving a defender trailing helplessly behind. Without breaking stride he shot home with an angled effort from just inside the box - an impressive finish 2-0

70 mins
Unfortunate Saints defender Warren Fisher had given away a penalty in the first half and his evening got no better as he diverted a Jackson cross past his own 'keeper from just outside the six yard box  3-0

80 mins
Back on the field for a second stint, Jackson volleyed home a fine effort after a Marshall cross 4-0

Full time: Saints 0 Newcastle 4

They said

Benfield general manager Bob Morton said:

"I'd like to thank Tommy Craig for bringing a team to Benfield. They were a credit to the club. We had a good crowd which will help us financially and that's thanks to Newcastle United."

Waffle

Striker Richard Offiong scored a goal in each half as a reserve XI beat Northern League new boys Benfield Saints on Monday night, but left the field before the end, feeling the effects of a strong tackle.

With all our outfield replacements have been utilised, midfielder Ben Jackson made a second appearance of the evening, notching his first goal of the pre-season after his mid-match "rest".

And although they didn't get on the scoresheet, there was a small measure of satisfaction among the Saints that they'd fared better than their rivals West Allotment, who went down 7-1 to Newcastle last month.
