Newcastle Reserves booked a
Senior Cup semi-final against Blyth Spartans with the minimum of fuss on Tuesday
night, although falling behind early in the tie.
Playing at the Wheatsheaf Ground home of Newcastle Blue Star due to the lack of
floodlights at Ponteland's own ground, the Northern Alliance side went ahead
through Mark Cowell after just four minutes.
However his team mate Howie promptly supplied an own goal to put United level,
midfielder James Beaumont then giving Tommy Craig's side an interval advantage.
Strikers Guy Bates and Lewis Guy then added further goals to ease their passage
into the last four of the competition.
