It's now public knowledge that the black and white gravy train has been shunted into the sidings and Robson can no longer wave a magic chequebook to make everything better on the field.
Of course, we've seen this situation here before, even during the so-called glory days of European involvement (Bobby Lee as a sole striker at home to PSV springs to mind.) With Maric, Ferguson, Robinson and Ketsbaia all thankfully sold on and being paid to do nothing, Bobby can hardly be blamed for the striking crisis. Yet.
No solution in the reserves either, with neither Coppinger or Ameobi up to
the job.
We now have to plan for a future when Shearer isn't an automatic choice.
Time to spend what we have on a new partner for Cort, rather than more
cheap offcuts.
