Tommy Craig
commented:
"We were much more powerful
than Ponteland and our superior fitness told. I was pleased we managed to
rattle in so many goals - I told them not to let up and I was delighted
they kept on playing right to the end."
The reserves strolled to another Senior
Cup final in the sunshine, with Bobby Robson in attendance (until he went
home for his tea.)
In stark contrast to our last cup tie against Northern Alliance Ponteland,
when a side including Georgiadis just squeezed through with a late winner,
the current second string powered ahead after an opening half hour when
they failed to test the home keeper.
Bedlington now stand between us and a third successive Senior Cup success
(Blue Star and Blyth being beaten in the last two years.) After taking us
to a replay in the competition last season, the final promises to be an
interesting one. Equally interesting is when exactly it will be staged,
with Bedlington's league commitments and other constraints making it
impossible at this stage to find a suitable date.
